SJC Academic SHS heeds the call of DepEd MATATAG Agenda
Last Basic Education Report (BER 2023), the Vice President and concurrent DepEd Secretary Sara Z. Duterte identified the problems in various areas in the basic education sector, including curriculum, infrastructure, learners' well-being, and teachers' welfare.
She introduced the "MATATAG" agenda, which stands for a four-side holistic approach to basic education improvement.
MATATAG" means "MAke the curriculum relevant to produce job-ready, active, and responsible citizens. TAke steps to accelerate the delivery of basic education services and provision of facilities. TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusiveness learning, and a positive learning environment, and Give support for teachers to teach better."
In line with this, San Juan City Academic Senior High School gives an emphasis on producing a young blood of learners who think critically and improve the facilities and equipment.
To give you a short background, San Juan City Academic Senior High School (SJC-Academic SHS) is one of the two established public schools in San Juan City. Last December 2021, the school separated the building from San Juan City TVL Senior High School and occupied the three-story building at Pinaglabanan Elementary School. However, in August 2022, preparing for full face-to-face classes requires a more spacious location that would cater to all the students. Therefore, the Schools Division Office decided to transfer Academic Senior High School to the Old San Perfecto Elementary School situated at the back of San Juan Elementary School. The new location is at number 86 A. Luna St. Brgy. Rivera, San Juan City, where the nearest landmarks are the San Juan Elementary School and San Juan Medical Hospital. It is more accessible compared to its former location.
With the help of the Local Government Unit, the school facilities were improved. And through the management of two excellent leaders, the former OIC-Principal Dr. Rina A. Angeles and with current school head Mrs. Maria Aileen B. Callorina Principal I, they provided good leadership and guidance in the development of the school learning resources center.
School Libraries are places for learning and thinking. They play a key role in supporting and developing brilliant minds. Our school library now might be too small compared to other schools. However, San Juan City Academic Senior High School is truly committed to providing comprehensive learning.
Students enjoy using the tablets given by the LGU and these help them to work efficiently in creating their schoolwork. Teachers utilize the Smart TVs in the process of teaching and learning, in their LAC sessions, and even in parent-teacher conferences. Truly, being part of an educational system requires knowledge, skills, and experience, to become worthy in the profession.
Moreover, teachers actively participate in establishing school priorities, setting goals for the learning hub, and reading corners, which make things relatively easy.
Meanwhile, Ms. Arlene Joy Rogel Teacher II of San Perfecto Elementary School (SPES) School Librarian, donated books which are a big help to all “Akademikos”. The team is also indebted to the Learning Resource Team in the division namely, Ms. Vhia Padilla, Mr. Anthony James Vizmanos, and the LR Supervisor himself, Dr. Jonas Feliciano Domingo, for their guidance in this little-sweet success story.
The school, teachers, students, and other stakeholders, are indeed happy and grateful for this wonderful fulfillment.
