San Juan launches The Makabagong San Juan Learning Management System and Fiber Optic Intranet

SAN JUAN CITY – Schools Division Office San Juan City and all its learners were thankful for the initiative of the local government headed by the Hon. Mayor Francis Javier Zamora, for the launch of the Fiber Optic Intranet and the Learning Management System held last April 30, 2021 at the Barangay Sta. Lucia Covered Court. The CEO and Co-Founder of Converge ICT Solutions, Mr. Dennis Anthony Uy, joined the event who expressed his commitment to deliver quality connectivity in the city.

Executive officials from the Department of Education namely, DepEd USEC for Field Operation Atty. Revsee Escobedo, Director for Information and Communication Technology Services Dr. Abram Y.C. Abanil, and Regional Director Wilfredo E. Cabral, graced the affair to express their congratulations to this joint undertaking in line with the program DIGITAL RISE. “We’re glad to see that San Juan is at the forefront of the battle in the Fourth Industrial Revolution as public school learners get the necessary technological support in these trying times,” said Atty. Escobedo in his speech.

As part of the highlight, the demonstration teacher, Danica Mae D. Rivera of Sta. Lucia Elementary School, gave the press media a walkthrough on what to expect when using the Makabagong San Juan Learning Management System (LMS). The system was made user-friendly as if the users are just navigating their favorite websites. Inside the Makabagong San Juan LMS, they can access the following: The San Juan Government Website where important announcements, news, and other featured activities of the city are broadcast; the SDO San Juan website where one can access certain frontline services like the Online enrolment registration for both the regular and the Alternative Learning System (ALS); the official learning portal where the different learning resources are lodged, as well as other relevant policies and issuances from the Department of Education; the San Juan Learning Management System which houses the different schools with their respective Aksyon Academy homepage; and the Makabagong San Juan Learning Communication System that allows learners to interact with one another like sending images of their output and holding call conferences for richer and meaningful online engagements.

The Makabagong San Juan Learning Management System serves as the core LMS of the Division. It is designed to be flexible and responsive for data and content management, records keeping, support for multi-media platform for both synchronous and asynchronous learning, features for assessment and grading system, and many other functions that can enrich the distance education of the San Juan learners. Additionally, the LMS has a video conferencing tool where in the teacher can start a web conference and let the learners join in without sending any links, making sure that all the participants are enrolled in the course. There are other extra helpful tools that they can maximize such as the live chat and survey forms that can best be used for quizzes.

In an interview, Ms. Danica remarked, “As an educator in the new normal, I believe this kind of support to our learners is a big step for them to feel that we always got their back, whether it be face-to-face or thru blended learning. Learning is possible. Here in DepEd San Juan, we are truly blessed that our leader is an advocate of innovative learning. He started making San Juan as the first ever SMART CITY in NCR, even prior to the pandemic. And it’s a high time that we maximize it.”
