Resbakuna Kids Program Rolls-Out at San Juan Elementary School
In support of the Philippine National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan and the National Vaccination Day on March 10-12, 2022, a one-day special vaccination program was held on March 10, 2022, at San Juan Elementary School (SJES) for learners age 5-17 who are willing to be vaccinated and are accompanied by their parents or guardians. The school-based pediatric vaccination roll-out was spearheaded by the Schools Division Office of San Juan City, through the School Governance and Operations Division – School Health and Nutrition Section, in partnership with the COVAX Team – LGU San Juan City. The vaccination team was able to vaccinate 99 learners (87 learners ages 5-11 and 12 leaners ages 12-17).
One of the participants is the 9-year old Thanya Lee Regalado, Grade 3 Learner of Special Science Class in SJES who was accompanied by her grandmother, Mrs. Evelyn Regalado. When asked why she allowed her granddaughter to be vaccinated, Mrs. Regalado said that she just wanted to make sure that her granddaughter is protected from the virus once the face-to-face classes start. “Ayoko rin na maging carrier siya ng virus, kaya mas mabuti ng mabakunahan siya,” she added.
The City Health Office and Schools Division Office of San Juan City hope to vaccinate more learners in the future as it plans to roll out special vaccination schedule on select Wednesdays in different schools in San Juan City. The second dose of vaccine for those who attended the March 10 event will be held at the San Juan Elementary School Conference Hall on March 31, 2022, 9:00 AM – 12:00 NN.
The local government of San Juan City has exceeded its vaccination target and has more than enough to extend the program to the pediatric population. The Department of Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones also supports the vaccination of the younger population as she urges them to be vaccinated.
