PES Young Math Wizards sweep Bronze Medals at PhIMO and HKIMO Heat Round 2023
Pinaglabanan Elementary School (PES) Little Math Wizards extended their winning streak abroad, taking home two bronze medals apiece at the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PhIMO) and Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO).
The PhIMO is the newest and most sophisticated international mathematics competition among Kindergarten to Grade 12 students. It is designed to honor the world’s best learners in mathematical problem-solving through friendly competition and to foster cultural exchange among its participating countries. On the other hand, HKIMO was developed by former Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Team Leader Mr. Wong Tin Chun. The objective of developing HKIMO is to foster students’ interest in Olympiads and promote Mathematical Olympiads all over the world.
Yeshuah Alfredo A. Guariño, a third-grader, was trained by his adviser, Ms. Magdalena S. Rosopa while Josemari G. Asuncion, a fourth-grader, was instructed by his Math teacher, Mrs. Marcelina D. Vallespin. Together with competitors from other countries, they both participated in these prestigious competitions. On April 8, 2023, they took part in the PhIMO, and on April 29, 2023, the results were made public. The HKIMO competition, in contrast, took place on May 28, 2023, and the results were released on June 8, 2023. A tremendous success was achieved by them both by winning bronze medals in these two international competitions. These medals are hard-earned and well-deserved. Attending the comprehensive training and putting out the necessary effort really paid off. They truly are the pride of PES.
Once more, a heartfelt congratulations to Yeshauah and Josemari!
Continue to soar high and always strive for excellence.
