SDO San Juan Mathematics Teachers Conduct Seminar-Workshop on the Development and Validation of Rubr
On November 14 – 16, 2019, the SDO San Juan Mathematics teachers conducted a Seminar-Workshop on the Development and Validation of Rubrics on Certain Topics in Mathematics at Whitewoods Convention and Leisure Hotel Sta. Rosa, Tagaytay. It aims to develop standard assessment of performance of the learners and the four levels of learning and development which are reaction, learning, behavior, and result. It was made possible because of the initiative of the EPS in Mathematics Mrs. Helen S. Acedo and the approval of Cecille G. Carandang, CESO VI, the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, OIC-Office of the Schools Division Superintendent.
The first day of the seminar-workshop commenced with a talk about “How to develop/create rubrics in Mathematics” by Ms. Flordelita G. Male, the MTAP President. Then, it was followed by the presentation of group activities wherein the participants were asked to create rubrics from them. The activities were Tower of Hanoi by Ms. Melecita S. Lelis and Ms. Loida A. Oliveros, and Math Domino by Ms. Liberty D. Quirino and Ms. Eden L. Balisbis.
The second day was called “the challenging day". The participants, Math teachers from Kinder 1 to Senior High School, went through a very challenging workshop because it required their higher order thinking skills to create rubrics based on the activities they performed and from the chosen Mathematics topics in their respective grade levels. The outputs created were edited by Mr. Jorge Ulanday, English teacher from SJNHS and Ms. Ajigida S. Abelende, Head Teacher III, Mathematics Department of SJNHS.
The third day started with the talked of Mr Lloyd T. Tulaylay and Ms. Ailene Tuzon on “Recreational Math”. After it, outdoor activities were done. Participants’ knowledge on answering mathematical problems and equations while enjoying playing the games were tested.
The program ended with a closing ceremony wherein the participants and the speakers received certificates of appreciation given by Mrs. Helen Acedo, EPS in Mathematics and Mrs. Helen G. Padilla, CID Chief.
