JUANSCI GOES TO MARISCI FOR A BENCHMARKING ACTIVITY
“The essence of this Benchmarking Activity is that it solidifies the sisterhood we have as Science High schools which we could aptly call now as “JUANMARISCI” to show our oneness”.
This was the concluding statement of Dr. Jay F. Macasieb, Officer-In-Charge of the San Juan City Science High School as they came to a close in the “JUANSCI” Benchmarking Activity in MARISCI (Marikina Science High School) last March 26, 2019 in MARISCI school grounds, Sta. Elena, Marikina City.
The 18-strong JUANSCI teachers were treated with so much indulgence of Research-filled activities as the host school welcomed the group in their first-ever MARISCI Research Festival held at the Marikina Freedom Park. The principal of MARISCI, Mrs. Jeanette Coroza, cheerfully acknowledged and thanked the visitors as they were introduced to the SDO Marikina officials led by OIC-SDS, Dr. Joel T. Torrecampo who quipped, “SDO San Juan, especially the Science High School, will always be welcome here in Marikina. We are like brothers in our pursuit of excellence in the name of public service”.
According to Mrs. Coroza, “the students of MariSci are trained to explore the benefits of what research has to offer. Your school should also capitalize on this as this skill (researching) is one of the vital ingredients to be a true Science High School student”.
The visitors were further led to the main campus where a troop of dancers exuded the warm MARISCI welcome through their impeccable dance steps and chants of the now-famous “Munting Basura, Ibulsa Muna” Campaign dance craze. Later that day, MARISCI teachers from the different departments presented their superb accomplishments and programs that added awe and inspiration to the JUANSCI teachers.
The highlight of the activity unfolded when the visitors trooped the office of their former OIC-SDS, Dr. Joel T. Torrecampo. There, they relished the good old days when JUANSCI was just a budding educational institution being run as Special Science Classes under the able stewardship of Mrs. Soliman.
The JUANSCI delegation is composed of teachers and led by Mr. Cesar A. Camayra who was represented by his brother Mr. Catalino A. Camayra, a Math teacher. With them are Mrs. Ma. Aileen B. Callorina, Assistant Principal II and Coordinator of SJNHS Senior High School and Mrs. Florence C. Ares, Assistant Principal of San Juan National High School (Main). To complete the powerhouse cast is the presence of Mrs. Abegail A. Soliman, MT II and former SJNHS-SSC Coordinator.
Benchmarking Activity is a way of discovering what is the best performance being achieved – whether in a particular company, by a competitor or by an entirely different industry. This information can then be used to identify gaps in an organization’s processes in order to achieve a competitive advantage. Best practice benchmarking involves the whole process of identifying, capturing, analyzing, and implementing best practices of high-performing schools.
The MARISCI Benchmarking Activity envisions to adapt and contextualize the best practices of the counter-part school (MARISCI) in order to improve its on processes, systems and programs towards the realization of its goals.
JUANSCI (clipped word for San Juan City Science High School) is the pet project of the administration of San Juan City Mayor, Madam Guia G. Gomez, who immortalized the creation of the Science High School when it was housed in the new building located in Barangay St. Joseph along Pinaglabanan and Santolan streets.
